Sukkot is our festival of booths when we build a temporary shelter and fill it with the plentitude of life – friends, food and fun times. As Abbot Kinney Blvd. is footsteps away, we dedicate our Sukkot Festival as “Sukkot on the AK Farm” to commemorate Abbot Kinney’s vision had for a “Venice by the Sea” – a community of inclusivity, creativity and vision – which is kind of like what Sukkot is all about. With donuts, cider and arts, and crafts, it’s a day to say yes to life, learn more about Open Temple and our Arts 36 Hebrew School of the Arts for Kids and connect with the community. FREE – please reserve your tickets on Eventbrite. Join our clergy in waving the lulav and etrog as we celebrate this joyous holiday in our sukkah! Come enjoy food trucks, live music, and blessings as a community on the Upper Yard. The holiday of Sukkot is so joyful that we call it Z’man Simchateinu, the Season of our Rejoicing. Sukkot commemorates a 40 year period when we wondered the desert, living in temporary shelters, “sukkot.” The big mitzvot of this festival are: to eat, sleep, or even live in a sukkah, and to wave the lulav (palm branch) and the etrog (citron). The weeklong Jewish festival of Sukkot celebrates the fall harvest season and the custom of welcoming guests to one’s home. Celebrations during this seven-day holiday recall the temporary desert dwellings, called sukkot, that the ancient Israelites constructed and lived in as they traveled to the land of Israel. Today, Jews around the world build and invite family and friends into their sukkot in the spirit of thanksgiving. read less
