This idea of relationship exists with the environment, time, materials and with each other. We, at Gan Malibu encourage open ended explorations between the children and our school environment. Through observation and documentation we mold our surroundings to both challenge and encourage creativity among our students. Long term projects allow for a deepening of understanding and thought processes as well as reflective thinking. The way we present materials is through clear intention and seen from a child's perspective. All of this could not be possible without first knowing our students as individuals and partnering with parents to create a curriculum that supports and nourishes your child. Using various philosophies-developmental, High Scope and Reggio Emilia, our school gives children the tools, space, and support to establish a positive sense of self. Children are encouraged to explore the world, learn, be a part of a group and work effectively with peers. Teachers help them handle frustrations and problem solve constructively. We teach to the total child-emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual. We address the 4 most important tasks of early childhood education: separation and the achievement of autonomy, language acquisition, communication skills, and socialization. The emphasis is completely on the positive and on the experiential. From the Alef-Bet to the ABC's; the weekly Torah portion to Jewish ethics; subjects are not merely taught in the classroom, but are animated and brought vividly to life - with music, with dance, with stories. Likewise, whether it's a holiday event, a Friday night dinner or a school graduation, there is a special spirit in the air that embraces child and parent alike. This school spiritually feeds the community, and vice versa. In the words of Director Renee Hutchings, Beyond the high level of professionalism we aspire to, there is that abstract dimension that endears this program to all involved. That dimension is love. It's warmth. It's Chabad. read less

Through observation and documentation we mold our surroundings to both challenge and encourage creativity among our students. Long term projects allow for a deepening of understanding and thought processes as well as reflective thinking. The preschool is open 7:30am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday throughout the school year, with an 8-week summer program. The Jewish early childhood program is open to the community, with priority enrollment to members of Temple Beth Israel. The program provides a nurturing learning environment which focuses on whole child development within a Reform Jewish setting. The clergy of Temple Beth Israel participate with the children weekly in a Kabbalat Shabbat, in addition to Jewish holiday celebrations. In an environment of caring and and understanding, the staff of the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) at Temple Etz Chaim works to help our children grow socially, physically, academically and spiritually through a program rich in stimulating activity. The ECEC environment is designed to create an atmosphere that enables our children to grow at their own pace. We believe that children learn through discovery, experimentation and problem solving. Our learning activities encourage the development of self-confidence, language and a positive self-image. We emphasize the role of the family and the celebration of our lives through the Jewish Life Cycle. Throughout the year, we have many family based activities, and we encourage parent involvement through parent education classes, classroom volunteering, Mom's, Dad's and Grandparent's Days, and Jewish cultural and holiday celebrations. Beginning at 18 months through 5 years old. read less
