The Jewish Federation’s Tour de Summer Camps is a community cycling and hiking event that will raise significant funds to send more of our kids to Jewish summer camp, helping them build a lifelong connection to Jewish identity and values. Cyclists and adventurers of all kinds (from beginner to expert level) will take on the challenge of a 18-mile, 36-mile, 62-mile (Metric Century), or 100-mile (Century) ride and ask friends, family, and coworkers to sponsor them in their fundraising efforts! Anyone can participate – young and old – but you must be 16 years or older to ride. If you are under 16, will be out of town or don’t ride a bike consider being a Virtual Rider or participating in the 1, 3 or 6 mile hike. The goal of Tour de Summer Camps is to provide means for every child who wants to attend Jewish summer camp to do so. All proceeds from the ride will support summer camp scholarships to give more kids that lifelong connection to Judaism that only Jewish summer camp can provide, which will in turn help us ensure the Jewish future—one of The Jewish Federation’s top priorities. Starting December 1, 2016 the fees go up to $275 (sorry, but all players must register and pay online; we are unable to accommodate any other methods of payment). Homework Club (K-6): Homework Club provides a place after school where students can unwind from a long day, eat a snack and spend time finishing their homework. Keyboarding (Grades 3-5 only): This class is specially designed for students who have basic skills and need to practice typing to develop speed and accuracy. Kindergarten Extended (K only): Kindergarteners can stay an extra hour any day to play on the kindergarten yard with CYE staff until 3:30pm pick-up. Lego Workshop (K Only): Learn basic building techniques and explore your creativity in the technology innovation lab with lego robotics kits. Taught by the pioneering Judy Hoffman, who also teaches technology at Wise School and supervises Lego Robotics teams for grades 1-6. Martial Arts (K-6): Students will learn the fundamentals of martial arts with an emphasis on discipline, safety, and fun. Classes are designed for fun, learning new skills, and to becoming knowledgeable not in the art of self-defense, but in the lessons of life. Taught by the sweet Master Bella, from Lions TKD. Minecraft (K-6): *NEW* Learn Minecraft building techniques, details of command blocks, and some basic computer programming. Kids learn strategy, team building, and cooperation skills while playing Minecraft in a fun, safe, and supervised environment! Taught by Parker Anderson Enrichment. Rhythm and Math (K Only): *NEW * Students learn how to understand and master musical rhythm in a group setting while playing on beautiful hand-percussion instruments like djembe, cajon, bongos, shakers, and darbuka. We use a visualization system called The Rhythm Compass™ (taught at UCLA and UCD) that makes understanding rhythmic relationships fun and easy. The mathematics of rhythm are counting and cardinality, operations, ratios, and algebraic thinking. Taught by the talented Trey Macias from Sound Formation, Inc. an outstanding music educator that has trained in our unique method. Soccer (K-6): Taught by Soccer Shots, the leader in youth soccer development for children ages 2-8 by teaching principles and life skills like confidence, respect, honest, and teamwork though their high-energy, quality soccer program.
